One of my favorite pastimes is to have dinner with friends, especially when we take turns hosting. I love seeing what menus and themes my friends come up with. Of course, half the fun for me is figuring out what I am going to bring. This weekend I was doing double duty and decided on one of my staples, tomato bruschetta. It is simple, yet such a crowd pleaser. But, as always I found a reason to try out something new as well. So therefore, Gorgonzola and pear bruschetta was born and now forever will be in my appetizer rotation!
1 loaf of baguette bread cut into slices about 1/2-inch thick
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
8 ounces Gorgonzola crumbled
3 tablespoons honey
2 pears peeled and sliced as thin as you can
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F
2.Arrange the sliced baguette on a baking sheet. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with onion powder. Bake until the bread is pale golden and crisp, about 10 minutes.
3.Drizzle honey on the crispy bread pieces. Then arrange one piece/slice of the pear onto each piece of bread.
4. Arrange cheese on the toasts. Then drizzle honey and balsamic glaze over the pieces of toast.
* You may want to also put the toasts with the cheese into the oven for 3 minutes or so to melt the cheese if you wish.
