Two Healthy Smoothie Recipes

The beginning of my pregnancy was tough. I was nauseous all day everyday with no relief. I heard of morning sickness. I expected something along those lines to happen. The all day sickness lasted week after week. For some people I know it lasts even longer than the first trimester. I am grateful I started feeling better after I entered my second trimester.

All of the sudden I didn’t want to eat certain foods. Each day was different than the last. Some days the best I could do was plain toast and pasta all day long. This also upset because I knew I was growing a baby! Being nauseous is hard because when you don’t eat, you get sick. Although you are too sick to want to eat sometimes. For me, I found that drinking smoothies was sometimes my best option to get food and nutrients down. You need to stay hydrated, which is hard when you are throwing up. Protein is essential to keep your belly full. All of this is a challenge when the only thing that feels good is laying down and staring at the wall. Yes, it was like that for me!

These two smoothie recipes are nothing ground breaking. They helped me get through a rough time and I am still using them. A banana can sometimes help soothe nausea and it replaces potassium lost when you are sick. Pineapple also has a lot of potassium and is great for hydration, along with coconut water. This combination together helped me stay hydrated. There were stays (still are) that I get sick of just drinking water. Then as a result I find myself drinking less, which is not good! So this is a good alternative. On the days where eating was hard I would sub out the pineapple for some peanut butter. This gave me a little more of “solid” food effect.

My green juice consists of apple, ginger, spinach, and avocado. The ginger is a widely known remedy for nausea. The avocado made this drink creamy and soothing. Also, I felt good about getting a green drink down. Due to my lack of appetite I was so worried about not getting enough good stuff in during this time.

These smoothies will be with me throughout the remainder of my pregnancy and beyond! Along with the no bake energy bites I made!
