There are a bunch of different ways to make pulled pork. The method below is what I used to make the pulled pork for the pulled pork dip!

Simple Pulled Pork

ingredients for dry rub

  • 4 lb pork shoulder

  • 3 tbsp kosher salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tbsp dry mustard

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tsp onion powder

  • 2 onions quartered

  • 4 garlic cloves, smashed

  • 1 cup apple cider

instructions

  1. Pat pork shoulder dry with paper towels

  2. In a small bowl combine the first seven ingredients. Then rub the seasoning mix all over the pulled pork

  3. Place the pork shoulder in a large slowcooker, sprinkle the garlic and onions around it.

  4. Add the apple cider and water to the bottom of the slowcooker. do not pour on top of the pork.

  5. Cover and cook on a medium/low setting for 8-10 hours, until the pork can be easily shredded.

  6. Move the pork shoulder the a rimmed baking sheet or large cutting board. Using two forks shred the pork. Add your favorite bbq sauce and toss. Or take the liquid from the slowcooker and strain out the solids through a fine mesh sieve.
